Our purpose is to support and engage citizens in providing volunteer service to improve the lives of youth in at risk communities and to cultivate leaders committed to making a positive impact in their communities.
BACR manages several regional AmeriCorps programs, including BAYAC AmeriCorps, BAYAC VISTA and OCASA AmeriCorps. In these programs we collaborate with over thirty community based organizations that serve youth and families in six Bay Area counties. BACR also partners with Public Allies, a national AmeriCorps program serving the Silicon Valley. As part of AmeriCorps, a federally funded national and community service program, AmeriCorps members commit to a term of service in a full-time (1,700 hour) or reduced part-time (450 hour) position. Members provide direct services to youth in the areas of tutoring, safe and structured after school activities, and health education and capacity building. This program achieves two objectives: first, Corps members gain valuable skills and experience as well as stipends to help with college; second, youth in high-risk communities receive valuable services.
