Our purpose is to promote well being, healthy living and self-management of health conditions. Community health projects work with people having or at risk for chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Media campaigns are conducted to educate the public about how lifestyle affects health. ![]() The West County First 5 Center offers free programs that help parents/caregivers nurture and support their children so they grow up healthy, happy, and learning. Our programs focus on parent education, early learning opportunities, family literacy, and tobacco education. Classes are for children ages 0 -5 and their parents/caregivers to participate in together. For parenting classes, we offer free childcare. Our programs address the following four goals:
All classes are free for residents of West Contra Costa who have or care for children between the ages of 0-5, as well as expecting mothers. Spanish translation is available for all classes. Classes meet once a week, and run between 4-10 weeks. Most classes are one hour in length. Please call us for the latest class schedule, or go to www.firstfivecc.org. The West County First 5 Center is located at 2707 Dover Ave, San Pablo, CA, 94806. Classes are also held at local community centers in Richmond, including The Nevin Center and The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. Outreach programs are offered at local housing complexes as a part of the Hand to Hand Home Visiting Collaborative. The West County First 5 Center is a partner in the Hand to Hand Home Visiting Collaborative. Through the collaborative, home visiting and center based services are provided at no cost to pregnant women and women with infants up to age four months. The population served includes West County families living in North Richmond, “Old” San Pablo, and Richmond’s Coronado and Iron Triangle Neighborhoods (Zip codes 94801, 04804, and 94806), families who are difficult to engage, high-risk families, and African-American and Asian families. Basic services include health education information and workshops, mental health individual and group counseling, violence prevention programs, drug and alcohol prevention/youth development programs, and reproductive health medical services including: std screening and treatment, pregnancy testing, reproductive health counseling, and contraceptives.
